Burnley confirmed five traveling fans were injured around Thursday's 3-1 Europa League loss to Olympiacos and had to receive medical treatment inside the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.

The Clarets corroborated earlier reports that one supporter was stabbed in the leg, with BBC Sport adding that the victim required stitches. Three Burnley fans were also reportedly robbed in the center of Athens prior to the first leg of the teams' playoff meeting.

Twenty-three followers of the Lancashire outfit were arrested for being drunk, disorderly, and refusing to board coaches provided by Burnley, according to Telegraph Sport.

"Burnley Football Club is working closely with Olympiakos and the local Greek police to investigate these incidents," the club statement concluded.

Burnley said "the vast majority" of their 900 supporters in Greece were "impeccably behaved."

The Premier League club faces an uphill task in the second leg. Chris Wood equalized in the 33rd minute from the penalty spot, but Olympiacos were back ahead four minutes after the break when Andreas Bouchalakis netted a header. Ben Gibson, in just his second start for Burnley, was then penalized for a handball, leading to a converted penalty by Kostas Fortounis and the former Middlesbrough defender's second yellow card.

Welsh forward Sam Vokes had a scrappy late effort disallowed due to an offside.

"My thoughts are with those brilliant fans there that have traveled over, and I feel for them because they just want to see their team play in Europe with 11 players. Nothing else," manager Sean Dyche said to The Telegraph after the match, referring to Gibson's dismissal.
