Teams will have the option of making up to five substitutions per match if and when they return to action, the International Football Association Board announced Friday.

Leagues will also be permitted to suspend the use of the Video Assistant Referee system if they choose to do so.

Although managers will have more substitutions at their disposal, they will still only have three opportunities to make changes during a match.

IFAB said the new rules will remain in place at least December 31, 2020.

More to come.
